April 1st – Edit, Edit, Edit!!

Editing is no joke! Now that we've wrapped up filming and recording, it's time to tackle the editing phase. My trusty media guru, aka Stephanie, is taking the lead on this one. With her solid training and real-world experience, I'm lucky to have her expertise.

While Stephanie handles the technical stuff, I'm getting hands-on with the editing process too. She's more like a mentor, showing me the ropes and helping me find my way. Together, we're turning raw footage into something polished, and I'm learning tons in the process.

My journey into learning to edit YouTube videos and podcasts has been a rollercoaster of trial and error, frustration, and ultimately, fulfilment. It all started with a simple curiosity—how do people make their content look and sound so professional? Armed with determination and a willingness to learn, I dove headfirst into the world of editing.

At first, it felt like navigating a maze without a map. The software seemed daunting, and every new feature felt like a puzzle to solve. But with each tutorial watched and every mistake made, I gradually began to understand the intricacies of editing.

There were moments of sheer frustration when things didn't go as planned. Hours spent trying to figure out why my audio sounded off or why my video transitions looked choppy. But with perseverance came progress. I learned to troubleshoot problems, experiment with different techniques, and embrace the process of refinement.

Slowly but surely, my skills improved. I honed my eye for detail and fine-tuned my ear for sound with the help from Stephanie. What started as a daunting challenge evolved into a passion—one that fuelled late nights spent perfecting the pilot and early mornings eagerly sharing my creations with the world.

Now, as I look back on how far I've come, I'm filled with pride and gratitude for the journey. Learning to edit YouTube videos and podcasts has not only expanded my skill set but also opened doors to new opportunities and connections. It's been a journey of growth, self-discovery, and unwavering dedication—one that I wouldn't trade for anything. And as I continue to learn and evolve, I'm excited to see where this path will take me next.

March 19th – A reflection on filming day

Yesterday marked the filming of our pilot episode. I arrived at the studio at 11 to rendezvous with Tiffani before our shoot commenced. We went over the questionnaire and mapped out our filming agenda. Additionally, since we were incorporating a makeup segment, I ensured all health and safety protocols regarding contraindications that could occur. We had previously discussed the desired look, and I had drafted design plans for Tiffani's consideration.

Meanwhile, Stephanie was busy setting up the studio, arranging the cameras and microphones. Given the high value of the equipment and her expertise, I entrusted her with this task. Once the setup was complete, I arranged the filming space, including wiping down a table for my makeup kit and positioning a barstool-style chair for Tiffani.

Prior to the interview, I recorded the introduction. Admittedly, there were some light-hearted moments as nerves caused a few tongue-tied takes. Nonetheless, we eventually nailed it. Transitioning to the interview/makeover segment, there was an initial burst of laughter, reflecting our excitement and the novelty of the experience. Finding our rhythm took a moment, but once we did, it flowed effortlessly. Engrossed in the makeup process, I almost forgot about the cameras, achieving the relaxed atmosphere akin to interactions with my typical clients.

With the video wrapped, a wave of realization hit me—I had accomplished it! Reflecting on the past year, filled with its ups and downs, it's surreal to think that nearly a year ago, I was battling health challenges. Today, here I stand, pursuing my dreams, unfazed by past obstacles. University, producing my podcast and YouTube show—these were once distant aspirations, now tangible realities. Refusing to let pain dictate my path, I'm determined to seize every opportunity and make my ambitions a reality.

March 11th – Getting Prepared

Guess what? I've got an interviewee lined up! Her name is Tiffani Ferrier, and she's a young interior designer from Fife, Scotland. I'm over the moon that I've found someone who's happy to be interviewed.

Next week, we have the filming and recording day. Stephanie (my media person) and I have been discussing the set-up, lighting, and equipment. I know I want pink and purple lights on a white backdrop to go with the branding and logo that I had developed.

I am feeling rather nervous about the filming day. As a makeup artist, I am used to being behind the camera, not in front of it. But, as Carol Dweck talks about in her growth mindset theory, I know that stepping out of my comfort zone is where the real growth happens. I know it will go well though. I am trying not to set my expectations too high as I know that this is only a pilot/prototype. It's not going to be perfect, there will be a few bumps in the road, and that's okay.
